3 Tips For Using A Floss Pick

Do you not like flossing your teeth with traditional dental floss? Do you tend not to floss regularly because of this? If so, you may find that it is easier to use floss picks to take care of your daily flossing. It is essentially dental floss with a built-in handle, which can make the job of cleaning between your teeth a lot easier. It can be for people that don't have the dexterity of using traditional dental floss, or those just looking for a different way to floss. Here are a few tips for using floss picks if you have not used them before.

Buy The Right Kind Of Floss Pick

You will notice that there are two types of floss picks that you can purchase. There is one style that is completely disposable, with the handle being in line with the dental floss. There is another type that has a reusable handle, but the floss is perpendicular to the handle. The head is the only part that is disposable with this style of floss pick.

You'll find that the disposable floss picks with an inline handle make it really easy to floss your front teeth, while the perpendicular style makes it easier to floss your rear teeth. If you are having trouble flossing between your rear molars, you may want to purchase a floss pick that makes it easier to get between those teeth.

Use An Up And Down Motion

Using a floss pick is very similar to traditional dental floss. You want to use an up and down motion to get the floss between your teeth and scrub that surface that your toothbrush cannot reach. You do not want to use a sawing motion, since that can cause some damage to the gums. Thankfully, the floss that is on a floss pick is typically so short that you can't do much of a sawing motion anyway, which makes it easier to floss the right way.

Wrap the Floss Around The Tooth

One of the problems with using a floss pick is that the floss isn't long enough to wrap around the tooth's surface. This means that you'll need to move the floss pick around at different angles to wrap around the tooth's surface as much as possible. This will help get the plaque out of the small pockets of your gums so that it doesn't turn into hardened tartar.

If you have more questions about floss or where to find good floss picks, talk to a local dentist.
